Catalog Review- "in the company of dogs"

This catalog is definitely worth a visit to the site to request it. It's well done (layout & photos) and the products are swanky. They've got the whole William Wegman line of dog things, funny dog art and cutesy dog clothes, among other things. A little on the pricey side as far as I'm concerned (around $70 for the quilted vest below), but worth a gander. And if you feel like how I feel about catalogs, this
one's a keeper. This one gets a 4 Hank heads rating. Click on the Hank heads to find out how I rate stuff. Request a catalog here.

And, perhaps the most compelling reason to git yerself a catalog from this company is this:

catalog review- "the dog's outfitter"

Here's a catalog that sells just about everything you'd think a pet catalog should. I love the company because they are one of the few who sell check chokes at a very reasonable price. I'm all about catalog shopping vs. going to the pet store, any day and every day. I give this one a 3 and a half Hank heads rating, but it's too hard to post that visually, so I'll make this one rare exception and give it a 4 hank heads rating.

They sell these for about $5.

And the much-loved Lambert Kay Fresh n' Clean shampoo and conditioner for $3.50

And a nice striped turtleneck for under $6.00.

magazine review-"Fido Friendly"

This is a nice rag about traveling with your dog, where to stay and who to fly with, etc. It's well-made and nice to look at, nice layouts and surprisingly interesting articles. I definitely recommend it, plus they'll send you a free issue as a "don't you want this magazine?" promo. I came across one issue in a hotel room in San Francisco last year and was hooked at that moment. Great photos, great everything in this magazine. Totally worth the $12 subscription for I think 5 issues. Totally. 4 Hank heads for Fido Friendly.

He wears a 15-17". thank you much.

There's more about this site you might dig. It's more for the spoiled little dog who is owned by a wealthy woman who loooooves to find any reason to spend money.

These are so crazy, they just might work.

But this one looks tougher if that's the look you're going for.

They even have a lovely free catalog that's just as smart in it's design as the site. I give it a 4 Hank rating because you can feel the love that went into the whole branding of the company.

magazine review- "Urban Dog"

click for rating system

For some reason (haven't figured it out yet), I am obsessed with catalogs and magazines. Always have been. So, why not review them for the site?

Here's my first; I found the site for this dog magazine and was impressed. Nice site layout and nice photos. Must be a good magazine, worth $15 for a year's subscription (4 issues). This is steep for me, but I was convinced by seeing what they did with the site.

When it came, I tought it was just another catalog. It's a glorified newspaper. Only has around 30 pages, filled with advertisements FOR NEW ORLEANS BUSINESSES. "Pet sitting by Donna" in New Orleans, parades scheduled in New Orleans, pet crematoriums and holistic veterinarians in New Orleans, etcetera. Waste of time for me. Why would a company knowingly send out a "magazine" subscription to a New York address and expect that person to want another issue if most of the magazine is targeting a NEW ORLEANS audience???! And why would a company not specify this on the site? Look at this photo of an archived issue;

You'd never in a million years guess that the magazine is NEWSPAPER PRINT.

In my opinion, this rag belongs in the local New Orleans starbucks joint, being given away for free in a little stand by the spot where you wait for the mocha frappuccino to come on out. Definitely not worth the $4.50 cover price. Stick to the site, they publish each article in its entirety there anyway. Duh. One Hank head for this one right here. Sorry.
