product review-adjustable check choke collar
This collar gets an extremely rare 5 Hank heads just for coming up with a great idea...
The check choke is similar to a martingale collar in that it is a limited choke BUT, when you want to give the dog or pup a correction, the chain part makes an aversive noise. Just great. I mean that. Check chokes are good for young puppies because they are less harsh, and besides that, you shouldn't put a regular choke chain on a puppy that's less than 4 months old. Lastly, THEY ARE CHEAP! By cheap I mean inexpensive. thedogsoutfitter.com has them for, like, $3. If you get one of these, make sure you take it off your dog when you are no able to supervise, and never allow the dog to wear it in his crate. They can catch onto something and panick, ending up hurting themselves. This holds true with any collar.

product review-leashes with clips like these
Take a look at the clip at the end of this leash. Take a real good look and make your brain remember this permanently. DO NOT USE A LEASH WITH A CLIP LIKE THIS! Divers call it a "suicide clip" because the springs are sensitive to small amounts of pressure, which allows the clip to either clip onto something it shouldn't OR just plain come undone from the collar it's attached to = loose doggie. One time a client of mine took a beagle outside on leash (we were practicing walking), and within a matter of one second, the dog had twisted a certain way and ran into the bushes on safari. Harley was his name, incidentally. Divers shouldn't use suicide clips and neither should you. One Hank head for this bad, bad leash.
this is the kind of clip you want to look for.
